Why Backing Up is Essential

Before any repair, backing up your data is crucial. While we take every precaution to protect your files, some repairs may require storage replacement, and unexpected issues can occur with any electronic device. A proper backup gives you peace of mind and ensures your precious files are safe.

Method 1: Time Machine

Time Machine is Apple's built-in backup solution and the most comprehensive option. Connect an external hard drive (at least twice your Mac's storage capacity), go to System Settings > General > Time Machine, click Add Backup Disk, and select your external drive. Time Machine will automatically create incremental backups.

Method 2: iCloud

iCloud can back up your Desktop, Documents, Photos, and more. Go to System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud and enable iCloud Drive. You can then select which folders and data to sync. Note that free iCloud storage is limited to 5GB, so you may need to purchase additional storage.

Method 3: Manual Copy

For essential files, you can manually copy them to an external drive or cloud storage:

  • Documents and Desktop folders
  • Photos library (usually in Pictures folder)
  • Music library (usually in Music folder)
  • Downloads folder
  • Any other important folders

What If Your MacBook Will Not Turn On?

If your MacBook will not boot, do not panic. In many cases, we can recover data from the storage drive even when the Mac will not turn on. Let us know when booking that you need data preserved, and we will take appropriate precautions. For critical data, we also offer dedicated data recovery services.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Time Machine backup take?

The first backup can take several hours depending on how much data you have. Subsequent backups are much faster as Time Machine only copies changed files.

What if I do not have an external drive?

You can use cloud storage services like iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox for essential files. For a complete backup, an external drive is recommended.
