Before You Book
Proper preparation ensures a smooth repair experience and protects your data. Follow these steps before sending your MacBook for repair.
Step 1: Back Up Your Data
Always back up your data before any repair. While we do not access your files, some repairs may require storage replacement or data wiping. Use Time Machine with an external drive, iCloud, or another backup solution to ensure your files are safe.
Step 2: Disable Find My Mac
This is essential for us to complete your repair. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS) > Apple ID > iCloud, scroll down to Find My Mac and turn it off. You will need to enter your Apple ID password. If you cannot disable it, make sure you have your Apple ID credentials ready.
Step 3: Remove Your Passwords (Optional)
While not required, removing your login password makes the diagnostic process faster. If you prefer to keep your password, that is perfectly fine - just let us know and we will contact you if we need access to complete testing.
Step 4: Note Any Additional Issues
When booking, describe all issues you are experiencing, not just the main problem. This helps us provide a complete repair and avoid multiple trips. Even if something seems minor, mention it.
Step 5: Package Securely
For collection:
- Use a plain cardboard box (remove any old shipping labels)
- Wrap your MacBook in bubble wrap or foam padding
- Fill empty spaces with packing material
- Do not include chargers or accessories unless requested
- Ensure the box is sealed securely
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I cannot disable Find My Mac?
If you are unable to disable Find My Mac (perhaps due to forgotten Apple ID password), contact us and we will advise on the next steps. In some cases, we may need you to remove the device from your Apple ID via iCloud.com.
Should I include my charger?
No, please do not send your charger unless we specifically request it. We have chargers for testing in our workshop. Sending your charger increases the package weight and risk of damage.
