Understanding Battery Health
MacBook batteries are designed to retain up to 80% of their original capacity after 1000 charge cycles. A charge cycle is completed when you use 100% of your battery capacity, whether in one session or across multiple sessions. You can check your battery health in System Settings > Battery.
Signs Your Battery Needs Replacement
Look out for these warning signs:
- Battery health shows "Service Recommended"
- Maximum capacity below 80%
- Battery drains significantly faster than when new
- MacBook shuts down unexpectedly
- Battery percentage jumps erratically
- MacBook only works when plugged in
- Any visible swelling of the battery (urgent)

You will see one of these statuses: Normal (battery is functioning normally), Replace Soon (battery holds less charge but functions), Replace Now (battery holds significantly less charge), or Service Battery (battery may have a fault).
